Have you ever heard the phrase, “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got”? I don’t remember where I first read that, but I like it! Sometimes in life we catch ourselves doing the same things over and over somehow thinking that eventually we will get a different outcome. But the truth is, that almost never works!
In March, we experienced a Lay Renewal Weekend that was anything but “business as usual.” In last month’s edition of The Messenger, I shared with you that Bro. David and I would be looking at ways to keep the unifying feel of that event moving forward. We spent hours in prayer and talking; we met with our deacons, and then with the church leadership team, and then, with you as a family on April 18th. Out of all of that talking, praying, and sharing of ideas, some strategies have developed that are exciting!! Let me share them with you briefly…
- We are going to begin “3-by-3’s” where three families will be grouped together for fellowship for a period of three months, giving you a chance to get to know other families within the church in an informal setting;
- We are going to develop a new plan for becoming better acquainted with our new members, utilizing our Sunday School classes and our deacon family ministry;
- Our deacons are going to continue the wonderful work they are already doing at creating times of fellowship within their deacon families (like our ThanksGathering celebration last November); and
- We are going to find ways to work together as a family in ministering to other churches, holding weekend revivals, doing ministry projects, and just encouraging fellowship.
